CloudOE is IBM's internal cloud computing platform. Upon taking over the functional prototype from product manager, I conducted usability test and found several defects in it. For instance, the waterfall layout demanded users to scroll down the page while making several options, which could be quite exhausting. The instructions were not clear enough to guide users through the process of creating an app. And the way information was presented wasn't visually pleasing enough.
In my redesign, users only need to click. Once an item is chosen, that section swipes left and gets replaced by the next step. That spares our users the act of "scrolling" and makes the whole experience smoother. Besides, I reconciled the inconsistencies of various icons on the page by applying the flat icon attributes as well as the "IBM" color spectrum to them. Other improvements include the multi-layered navigation bar that informs users where they are at any moment, and instructions in grey color which benefit beginners without distracting expert users.
